London Marathon 2024 London Marathon 2024 A Competition for All Age Groups 91 Was the Oldest Participant Ever

This year’s 43rd edition of the London Marathon took place on 21 April. A record-breaking 840,000 runners had already registered for the next iconic race in 2025 by the end of April, beating the previous record of 578,304 from this year. By comparison, a total of 165,000 applications were recei ved for the 2024 New York City Marathon and there are usually around 300,000 applications from hopeful runners for the Tokyo Marathon. Women’s registrations for the London Marathon have risen from around 43 per cent last year to 49 per cent this year, practically matching those of men.

Picksley, a veteran runner with a long career, was a hero of the London Marathon even before he started at the event. His fighting spirit has earned him praise from all corners. Picksley has been a keen runner all his life and still is despite his advanced age. He ran a total of 13 mara thons in his 50s and 60s. In the picture that emerged on social media, the 91-year old can be seen completing the marathon with a bleeding nose, emphasising his exemplary spirit and dedication. The joy of competition does not necessarily diminish with age; on the contrary, it can still motivate you to perform at your best.

In this context, London is working to encourage people of all ages and abilities to be active.
